Headed towards winter… another Polar Vortex?

10/13/2014

2014/10/213 The chill is in the air and we can feel winter just around the corner.

The impact of last winter is still fresh in our minds. The Commerce Department reported that first quarter GDP shrank by 1 percent due to extreme winter weather may be one of the clearest examples of just how closely weather and the economy are linked.

What can we expect this year?

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts that this winter will be another arctic blast with above-normal snowfall throughout much of the nation.

The weather combined with continued driver shortages could be a truly nasty storm to weather.

Like with any pending storm, the best way to get through it is to prepare.

For mailers, this means knowing and communicating goals to their supply chain in advance. There are many options, even in a tight market, to hit a targeted delivery window. For other mailings, when the goal is not a delivery window, but cost savings,  getting it there economically is still possible.

Communicating your objectives and partner planning is the key to all of us digging through the snow efficiently.
